When you travel overseas, in an aircraft the journey is meant to be comfortable and full of happiness. That’s how I feel each time I board an aircraft. My own little space (my seat) is made comfortable with a neck pillow, my headphones and my travel blanket to keep me warm and fuzzy in the midst of silver clouds, high up in the sky.

Most budget airlines or short distance flights will not provide you with blankets. So carrying one yourself is a good idea to stay warm inside the flight cabin.

Even if most international flights come with (a rough blue/black) blanket – remember that it has been used, crushed and probably abused. Carrying your own clean, soft and pretty blanket is a MUST for every traveler (and cleanliness freaks as well).

Not only valid for airplanes, but travel blankets also some in handy in overnight trains, long road trips or even a movie theatre – trust me, who doesn’t want to snuggle.

Now, that you know what and why you should own a travel blanket, let’s go through some of the key features of travel blankets so that you can make an informed selection from one of our recommendations below.

Material

Probably the most important thing is the travel blanket material composition. The blanket is meant to provide you comfort and warmth, it should not be itchy or cause discomfort. Most blankets are made up of synthetic material, but you can also find some that are hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin (for those prone to allergens).

Fleece – The most common material used to make a travel blanket is fleece. Fleece travel blankets are warm and soft to touch. It is polyester but feels like wool. It comes in a variety of colors and sizes.
